Schmucker Art Gallery Director Shannon Egan will take you on a virtual tour of the current exhibition I Beseech You: Women, Art, Politics, and Power.  The title of the exhibition is borrowed from a print by Black contemporary artist Carrie Mae Weems, Tell Me, I Beseech You, When I Casted My Vote to You, Did I Cast It to the Wind?. This work and others in the exhibition examine complicated issues related to identity, environmental activism, politics, and power in art. The exhibition coincides with the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. The artwork featured in the exhibition does not just celebrate the voices of women in a democracy, but also acknowledges the continued challenges of equal rights and social justice. Although Gettysburg College is open only to current students due to the pandemic, guests to this event will get an in-depth look at the art on the walls from the comfort of their homes.
