Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine in Harry Potter’s World
June 3 - July 13
2nd Floor, Gettysburg Library

In 1997, British author J. K. Rowling introduced the world to Harry Potter.  Although the story is  fantasy, the book series features magic that is partially based on Renaissance traditions that played an important role in developing Western science - including alchemy, astrology, and natural philosophy.  Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine in Harry Potter's World, a traveling exhibition from the National Library of Medicine, incorporates the work of several 15th and 16th century thinkers and explores the responsibility that comes with power.  We invite you to visit the Gettysburg Library from June 3 - July 13 to explore potions, monsters, herbology, magical creatures and immortality.

The National Library of Medicine produced this exhibition and companion website.
