2019 is a special year as it marks the 60th anniversary of the Adams County Friends of the Library. Started in 1959, a group of concerned citizens wanted to make a library in Gettysburg an important community resource. That spirit continues today as we make our yearly fundraising donation, allowing the library system to continuously improve the library user’s experience.

I really have the Best. Job. Ever! (I’m not a librarian, but I get to work with them!)
My colleagues find the correct information on the World Wide Web in lightning speed. If I could create a tag line for us it would be We’re Better Than Google. (But, I can’t (legally). So I won’t.) Their ability to discern the best fit through the clutter amazes me every single day! In a world of distra...

Local individuals and businesses will be handing out candy to our ghosts and goblins beginning at 6:00pm. Also at that time, there will be a Halloween c...

TeenTober, formerly known as Teen Read Week, is a national literacy initiative created by Young Adult Library Services Association. First started in 1998 as a weeklong celebration in October, it encourages teens to become regular library users and advocates. This year YALSA’s board decided to re-envision Teen Read Week into a longer and larger awareness campaign. Thus, TeenTober was born.

But we haven’t forgotten about the adults in our community; we offer lots of fun activities and learning opportuniti...

October is quickly approaching, which means the Adams County Library System’s month long celebration of the Adams County Reads One Book program is very near. I’m very happy to present the list of programs, discussions, and events taking place throughout the month in conjunction with this year’s One Book selection, What the Dead Leave Behind by Rosemary Simpson.
The Adams County Library System (ACLS) has six brick and mortar locations across the county in Gettysburg, Biglerville, Carroll Valley, East Berlin, Littlestown and New Oxford. What people may not be aware of is that our services routinely extend beyond these buildings. Staff members venture into schools, senior centers, the local prison, preschools, and more. We are fo...

We’re thrilled to announce that Jamie Ford, author of The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and Love an...
This September the Adams County Library System (ACLS) is joining the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time to remind parents, caregivers and students that a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.
