Changes Have Arrived to New Oxford Area Library

On behalf of New Oxford Area Library, I am excited to welcome the month of May! This spring has brought a number of changes to our lovely library. This March, we welcomed Lauren Miller, with her passion for story time and children’s activities, to Adams County Library System. After a wild and absolutely wonderful ride with Jean Barnett Trone Memorial Library in East Berlin, I accepted the position of branch manager in New Oxford beginning in April. We both thank you for the warm welcome to the New Oxford community.
Lauren and I have been hard at work freshening up the space, activities, and materials available for borrowing! On Mondays at 9:30am, we offer “Babies & Books,” a storytime specifically for babies that incorporates short stories with music, activities, and rhymes. On Monday at 10:30am, we offer “Toddler Time,” a storytime with songs, crafts, and activities for our toddler-aged patrons. Beginning May 17, we will offer two additional storytimes: “Family Fun” on Thursdays at 6:30pm and “Preschool Party” on Fridays at 10:30am. Beginning May 21, KPETS will be joining us for “Read to a Therapy Dog” on the third Monday of the month at 6:30pm. A great way to get practice reading aloud!
Are your storytime days over? We offer interest groups for adults as well - two book discussion groups and a knitting/crochet group. Feel free to give us a call at 717-624-2182 or drop me a line at if you have a special interest/hobby and would be interested in sharing it with the community here at the library.
Summer is almost here! We will kick off Summer Quest with the rest of Adams County Library System on Friday, June 8 from 4-7pm for “FunFest” at Gettysburg Rec Park. We hope you will join us for face-painting, balloon artists, and other activities (free of charge). New Oxford Area Library will be hosting a number of summer activities based on this year’s theme: “Libraries Rock!” We will have a petting zoo, musical performances, make-and-take crafts, engineering activities, and more. Involvement in this year’s Summer Quest will include the tracking of minutes-read (or read-to for our early readers) and participation in a host of activities. Incentives to be earned include free books, vouchers for local restaurants, baseball tickets for the York Revolution, and more!
The Get Outdoors (GO) Adams! Program is back this year with “GO and Make Music!” Search Adams County parks to locate a total of 15 letterboxes and their “instruments.” More information can be found with the Summer Quest materials (to be made available soon) and at online.
Lauren and I hope to see you at the library in New Oxford soon! Did you know that books, movies, and other items that are not available from our library’s catalog can be ordered in for borrowing at no cost to you? Have a special request? Ask us to order an interlibrary loan item for you today!
