#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday (today!) and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on December 3rd and continue the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
The Adams County Library System’s #GivingTuesday Goal is to raise $1,000 to purchase power charging devices for each of our 6 library branches. We’re happy that library patrons bring their multiple electronic devices to our branches to utilize digital resources on our CloudLibrary, stream music, and to simply check their emails. After all, we offer comfortable seating and fast internet access! But we have limited outlets to offer a way for patrons’ electronics to stay charged. Will you please help the ACLS by donating $25 during the 24 hours of #GivingTuesday on December 3rd to help us purchase power charging devices for each of our 6 library branches? That way library patrons can charge their electronic devices and their brains!
I just looked on Instagram and there are over 221,000 posts with the hash tag “feeling thankful.” I am going to add 6 more. I am #feelingthankful for the sponsors of the Adams County Library System. With their help, we have expanded educational programming opportunities for all ages. I am #feelingthankful for each of our donors who has responded to our Be a Deer Dear fundraising campaign. People have given $5 so that all Adams County preschoolers can read the One Book Every Child story. Thank you! Some have given $35 so that we can purchase a large print book (we can barely keep them on the shelves!). Others have given $50 to support Lifelong Learning for all Adams County residents or $100 to support a month of storytime programs for children (#wonderful!). And some donors have given a gift to help with our most urgent needs because sometimes life is unpredictable; thank you so much!
Recently I shared that I have the Best. Job. Ever! I am #feelingthankful for each of our volunteers including the amazing group of leaders on our Board of Trustees: Karen Arthur, Mary Sue Cline, Genevieve Felty, Jim Gardner, Jeremy Garskof, Richard Gawthrop, Heidi Gillis, John Kiehl, Don Marritz, Dorothy Puhl, Rita Rice, and Ray Schwartz.
I have the privilege of working with a fabulous group of talented women on the Signature Event committee and I am #feelingthankful for their year-round hard work: Becky Blahus, Karen Burns, Heidi Gillis, Sharon Graff, Tammy Schwartz and Pat Thorsen. Stay tuned for the announcement of the New York Times Bestselling Author coming in September 2020!
And of course, we get (more than a) little help from our Friends. I am #feelingthankful for each of our Friends groups who devote their time and energy to raise funds and awareness for the 6 library branches in Adams County! (Let me know if you want to learn more about the Friends of the ACLS, Friends of Littlestown, or the Friends of New Oxford. They’re #amazing!)
Last but definitely not least, I am #feelingthankful for my colleagues who work each day to connect people to opportunities that enrich their lives. We hope to see you soon!
