Music and Magazines

Did you know that you can access magazines using Flipster, a next-generation magazine service that allows you to browse digital versions of the latest popular magazines courtesy of the Adams County Library System?
The library system has both Flipster and hardcopy versions of magazines such as People and more so that you have the option of accessing the content either in the library or remotely from the comfort of your home, or wherever you may be.  Flipster titles can be downloaded to Android phones and tablets, Apple phones and tables and the Kindle Fire for offline reading anytime, anywhere.
Flipster offers an easy, browse-able reading experience. You can browse magazines by category as well as perform searches for specific periodicals. An online newsstand provides a carousel of the most recent issues, as well as a carousel of all issues allowing for quick access to magazines. The table of contents contains links for quick access to articles of interest and hotlinks within magazines are hyperlinked, opening in separate tabs when clicked. In addition, there is an option to zoom in and out for better readability.  You even have the option to print pages from the magazine when reading on your computer.
Current titles that we subscribe to on Flipster include, but are not limited to, People, Popular Science, The New Yorker, National Geographic, Food Network Magazine, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, Civil War Times, Clean Eating and Rolling Stone.
Don’t forget to check out Freegal when you’re looking at Flipster.  Freegal is an online music streaming service that you have access to with your library card.  Freegal allows you to stream music for three hours a day and download five songs every week for free.  It contains the entire Sony Music catalog – over 15 million songs – and more are added daily.
Any music that you download through Freegal is permanent – this means that you keep the songs forever.  There’s no returning or dealing with overdue items.
The Freegal app may be downloaded to any Android or Apple device to allow for an ad-free music experience.  Check out the curated playlists today or create your own with your favorite artists.
Flipster and Freegal are available via the library’s website, www.adamslibrary.org.  All you need to access either service is your Adams County Library Card.
Don’t have a card?  Sign up today!  It’s easy!  Visit one of our six locations in the county or register via the website (link is found under the Services tab).  Don’t forget about the other digital offerings that we have – eBooks, downloadable audio books and databases are all just a click away!
