As Thanksgiving approaches, the Friends of the Adams County Library System are taking stock for all we have to be thankful for in 2018.
From a fundraising standpoint, the Friends raised $60,000 for the Adams County Library System through various fundraising venues such as the Friends Book Store; Summer Book Sale; the Gettysburg Antique Shows and the April fundraiser on Women’s Suffrage. We are thankful to all those whose generous financial support helped us to raise funds at these events.
We are thankful for Ellen Smith and her volunteers who assist and run the Friend’s Book Store; for those sorting donations in the garage on a weekly basis; for those assisting with establishing our new Amazon book selling presence; and for those who volunteer at our summer book sale.
We are thankful for C. David Redding, for allowing us to lease his Auction House to have our 2018 Summer Book Sale, at a time when there were no other viable site options available to us.
We are thankful for Mike Gastley, who without his time, effort and help, there would not be a summer book sale. Sadly, 2018 is Mike’s last year in assisting us and we will be forever grateful for what he did for us.
We are thankful for our Friends membership, who through their annual dues or lifetime memberships, allow us to continue to support and champion our communities libraries.
Finally, I am grateful for the support and work of our Friends Board, who soldier on with ideas to meet those challenges we face in raising funds for our library system. Without their time and effort, some of which is considerable, it would be an impossible task.
As for 2019, I am excited to announce that we will have a 2019 Summer Book Sale. We are very fortunate to have Schmuck Lumber and the Adams County Commissioners step forward to help us solve the transportation and storage needs for our books to have a book sale. And, again thanks to the Redding family we have a site for our book sale. The sale dates will be July 31 – August 3rd, 2019.
All in all, a great year and we are looking forward to 2019 and what it brings.
Remember; support the Friends and the Adams County Library System!
