Help Us “Raise the Roof” for the Gettysburg Library
The Gettysburg Library is located in an iconic building built in 1914. An average of 500 people pass through its doors each day to use computers, do genealogical research, attend programs, use the community meeting rooms, study, and explore the collection of books and other resources. Unfortunately, we have sprung not one, but four leaks in our roof. It is an unbudgeted expense of approximately $34,000. Will you please consider giving towards the purchase of a new roof?
Do you love summertime as much as we do? It’s our busiest time of year and your support of Summer Quest, formerly known as Summer Learning, provides free educational and entertaining programs for children and adults for more than 10,000 people. Nearly 1,700 students read more than 1 million minutes this past summer. This year we’ll inspire children through A Universe of Stories by exploring Space! Your support will help us to create programs that will motivate children to read and keep reading to avoid the “summer slide” because often a public library is the only community space available during the summer months where families can access free educational activities. Will you help us to offer additional programs in 2019 so that we can reach even more families? Here’s to 1.1 million minutes read this summer!
A Digital Library for All
Our website has a new look and our page views are up by 76% because it’s designed to make it easy for you to find the many resources offered though our Digital Library. Whether it’s a paper book, e-book, audio-book, magazine, map, recipe, genealogical or science reference material, newspaper, music or a tool to learn a foreign language, we’re here for you and your family. Our purpose is to connect people to opportunities that enrich their lives.
We are thrilled to now offer BrowseAloud, an accessibility tool that assists those who are sight, hearing or learning challenged, or whose primary language is not English. These tools allow users to enlarge or highlight text, or even have it read to them in their language of choice. The BrowseAloud feature was used 4,337 times during the first 4 months offered with more than 50% of the use taking place on cell phones and tablets. Your gift will help us to fulfill our mission of opening gateways for exploration for all Adams County residents.
Every Dollar Helps
Your gift of any amount, which is tax deductible, will make a difference in the life of an Adams County resident. To help express our gratitude, when you donate by December 31, 2018, we’ll send you an official ACLS magnet to proudly display on your car, filing cabinet or refrigerator. You can send a check, donate at one of our library locations or pay through our secure website by clicking the Donate Now button at adamslibrary.org.
Your support provides important lifelong learning for the residents of Adams County. Thank you for joining us in the pursuit of our vision: Every Life Fulfilled! We hope to see you soon!
