Summer Quest, Summer Book Sale, One Book, Author Visit, and More!

     It’s not too late to visit the Friends of the Library Summer Book Sale.  Stop by and peruse the vast inventory!  Over the past year, volunteers sorted over 25,000 books which are now arranged on tables for your browsing convenience.  The Friends accept cash, checks and credit cards.  Proceeds from the Summer Book Sale support the Adams County Library System.  This year, the book sale is being held at a new location:  Redding Auction House, 1085 Table Rock Road.  The book sale is open today, Friday August 3rd from 9am - 8pm and tomorrow, Saturday August 4th 9am – 3pm.
     The Summer Quest winds down this month.  Be sure to log your minutes and claim your prizes by August 12!  Complete your visits to Adams County parks, make your rubbings and turn in your GO Adams County entries by August 19th for your participation prize and for a chance at the grand prize!  There are still special summer programs going on, check out the Events Calendar on www.adamslibrary.org.  There are block parties, movie matinees, crafts, storytimes and more going on at a library near you!
     On Tuesday September 11, the Library is sponsoring a free event.  Wine, Cheese & Art:  An Evening of Art Education with Shannon Eagan, Director of the Schmucker Art Gallery will include a chance to mingle with other art lovers, a gallery tour and an art talk.  This event will be held at Schmucker Hall beginning at 5:30pm.  Please RSVP by September 7 at www.adamslibrary.org (on the September Events Calendar) or call Vicki at 717-334-0163.
     Are you reading?  A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline is the selection for the 2018 Adams County Reads One Book program.  “This instant New York Times bestseller is a stunning and atmospheric novel of friendship, passion, and art, inspired by Andrew Wyeth’s mysterious and iconic painting Christina’s World.”  Copies are available at all six ACLS branches in regular, large print and audio cd formats.  The title is also available to download as an eBook or eAudiobook.  Visit the cloudLibrary to begin your reading or listening now!  
     Tickets for a bus trip to the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art in Chadd’s Ford on Tuesday, October 9 are on sale now!  The cost is $90 and includes a tour of the museum and Andrew Wyeth’s studio, transportation, and gratuities.  Lunch is on your own at the museum’s cafeteria.  Visitors will have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Andrew Wyeth and see some of his famous works.  Seats are limited, so get your ticket now!  To purchase your ticket, visit any library or purchase your ticket online at www.adamslibrary.org (on the October Events Calendar).   
     Join us at the Wyndham Gettysburg for An Evening with Christina Baker Kline on Friday September 28th.  This event includes a cocktail mixer, silent auction, dinner with a presentation by Christina and a book signing opportunity.  Tickets are $100 per person ($150 for the VIP experience) and are available at any Adams County Library or at www.adamslibrary.org.  Choose the Support Your Library tab and then Signature Event.  If you purchase your ticket in August, your name will be entered to win an additional free ticket or an upgrade to VIP!
